Viziv 2

The time has finally come for Subaru SUV drivers to get the shade of green that they have always wanted. The energy-efficient green concept vehicle, Viziv 2, made its debut at the Geneva auto show last week. Viziv 2, which is short for vision for innovation, hints at a new crossover and possible replacement for the outgoing Tribeca vehicle.

Subaru drivers have been clamoring for a hybrid vehicle for almost a decade and now it is almost within reach. The Viziv was originally introduced last year at the Geneva auto show but it came back this year with a bit of a twist. The Viziv 2 is a plug-in hybrid and is previewing design language and technologies that are sliding into Subaru production cars and light trucks.

The Viziv 2 is projected to go on sale in three years and will replace the slow-selling Tribeca, which has a cramped rear seat and limited cargo capacity. The new model is being developed as a seven-seat SUV/Crossover. The Viziv 2 has similar design concepts that are seen in the redesigned 2015 Subaru Legacy as well as the recently revealed WRX STI.

The 1.6-liter boxer diesel engine paired with a continuously variable transmission send power to a ll four wheels of the Viziv 2. All Subaru vehicles come equipped with all-wheel drive.

Subaru first arrived on the green scene last year with the 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid. With the Viziv 2, Subaru devised an all-wheel-drive system for the concept in which the diesel engine and one electric motor power the front wheels, while two additional electric motors power the rear wheels.

The Viziv 2 is greener than ever. The electric motors are used for slower speeds while the diesel engine kicks in for higher speeds to optimize fuel economy. Add that feature to the stop-start system partnered with the power train and you have an amazing fuel-efficient vehicle. If the vehicle is in the Eco Cruise mode, it will work alongside Subaru's EyeSight safety system to monitor the road ahead and adjust engine output to conserve energy.

Subaru continues to increase its green efforts every year. We can't wait to see what Subaru comes out with next!
