What's in a name?

Did you know Subaru is the Japanese word for "unite." It's also the term for the Pleiades star cluster M45, or as it's more commonly known "The Seven Sisters." It's among the nearest star clusters to Earth, so it's the most obvious to the naked eye in the night sky. So why are there only six stars in the Subaru logo? Because traditionally, one star is always hidden. It is thought that the name and logo alludes to the six companies that merged to create FujiHeavy Industries - Subaru's parent company.
